| Lightmixer.
My first posted idea for nogallery was to turn the hole space inside out in its most literal meaning with the windows, roof and floor taken down and turned around to be put back in again. The only visual differences of the space would then be that my name and the title of the show would be seen backwards and on the opposite side of the window. But as we discussed how to proceed, we soon found out that this work would not be possible to do at this time. Although some of that ideas of the shifting sides is still present in the produced "Lightmixer". I have for quite some time been thinking of mirroring and transporting images, with the help of mirrors or other materials to experience the distance, direct changes and to be able to show or see something particular that you in another situation would not be able to see. In this case I thought allot of the contradictions embedded in the name of nogallery and wished to rebuild the inside of the vitrine to redirect and possibly rethink the meaning of the offered space where my work now could take place. I choose to use or work with the lights that I found hanging in the vitrine. These lights that usually illuminates the works of other exhibiting artists, or what the former barber wanted to show in he’s vitrine. I found at first the lights to be broken but with a bit of mixing and fixing I got three out of four to work with no further problems. The constructed wooden tubes were then built with the cheapest plywood to emphasize the new constructed backside of the gallery and the new inside painted classic white. The tubes started from and around each light bulb and turned in strait angles into the middle of the space, going thru the floor of the space and end up outside and under the hanging vitrine. As I do not want my pieces do end up dead serious I like them to hold levels of easiness, a specific strait forwardness, playful constructed with basic conceptual ideas such as the wooden constructed function of mixing of lights. The wooden tubes is turned around, shifting places and created the supposed mix only by letting the flow of the lights move around each other inside the separated new gallery walls. With help from mirrors the lights ends up spotting the pavement under the vitrine in red, blue and yellow. I very much like that the lights on the ground is only visible when it is dark and I hope that the night active audience will enjoy the pieces as much as they did when I was there to install. |
